Professor Juliana Chan receives Yutaka Seino Distinguished Leadership Award
First Hong Kong scholar to attain Asia's highest honour in diabetes research and education, awarded by the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes (AASD) — recognising global leadership in diabetes epidemiology, young-onset diabetes, chronic kidney disease, the JADE Programme and contributions to the Lancet Commission on Diabetes.

Over 900 young people with diabetes provided with continuous glucose monitors — sharply reducing severe complications
The Jockey Club Support for Young People with Diabetes (YDA) programme reports 85% reduction in hospitalisation from diabetic ketoacidosis, 60% reduction in severe hypoglycaemia and 50% reduction in severe hyperglycaemia after 12 months of continuous CGM use.

A decade of CUHK–Oxford collaboration produces the first Chinese Diabetes Outcome Model
CU Medicine and the University of Oxford developed the Chinese Diabetes Outcome Model (CDOM) using data from over 21,000 patients in the Hong Kong Diabetes Register. The model predicts lifetime risks of 10 major complications and supports health economic evaluation and policy decisions.

CUHK launches four-year DNA testing programme to screen 9,000 adults for young-onset diabetes risk
Funded by over HK$61 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the programme screens adults aged 18–44 using saliva-based DNA testing to identify high genetic risk of young-onset diabetes.

Substantial productivity and economic losses due to type 2 diabetes in Hong Kong, particularly in young individuals
Published in The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific, the study quantified diabetes-related productivity losses using Productivity-Adjusted Life Years (PALYs). Estimated GDP losses: HK$119 billion (men) and HK$113 billion (women), with disproportionately higher losses among younger individuals.
